Here is my first transcription for the cavaquinho. “Carioquinha” is an instrumental piece composed by Waldir Azevedo, one of the greatest figures of Brazilian choro. Known for his virtuosic cavaquinho playing and hits like “Brasileirinho”, Azevedo infused this composition with the lively and intricate spirit of Rio de Janeiro’s music.
The title “Carioquinha” means “little Carioca”, referring to the people of Rio de Janeiro, and the music reflects this energy with its bright melodies, fast arpeggios, and syncopated rhythms typical of choro.
