Description
Jonathan Stout is a swing guitarist renowned for his authentic vintage style. In his note-for-note soloing, he draws direct inspiration from Charlie Christian, capturing his bluesy phrasing and horn-like articulation. In his chord-melody playing, Stout channels the elegance and subtlety of Allan Reuss, blending rhythmic sophistication with rich harmonic textures to recreate the true sound of 1930s and ’40s swing guitar.
Here is a chord voicing version of the great standard Sweet Sue, interpreted by Jonathan Stout in an old-school swing style. I’ve also transcribed, at the end of the video, a solo from one of his “Chorus a Day” videos in the style of Charlie Christian.
Enjoy 🙂
