Description
Jonathan Stout is one of today’s leading specialists in pre-war swing guitar, with a style deeply rooted in the playing of masters such as Allan Reuss and Charlie Christian.
Here is a complete transcription of his beautiful chord-melody arrangement of “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,”performed on his 1932 Gibson L-5. The arrangement is a great example of Stout’s old-school approach to swing guitar, combining rich chord voicings, moving inner voices, bass lines and melodic phrasing while maintaining an authentic 1930s swing feel.
🎁 BONUS: The PDF version available for purchase also includes the transcription of another Jonathan Stout solo, taken from his “Chorus A Day” video series. This additional chorus showcases the other side of Stout’s playing: single-note swing guitar strongly inspired by Charlie Christian, with bluesy phrasing, rhythmic drive and classic swing vocabulary.
Two different sides of Jonathan Stout’s playing in one transcription: chord-melody in the tradition of Allan Reuss and single-note soloing in the spirit of Charlie Christian.
